How do I filter/stop spam from entering my email if I am using my own email server (NOT hotmail, yahoo, gmail)

I want to keep the email that I've been using for 4 years, but I need to now block the spam that is coming in each day. I want to continue to recieve my friends and family emails. I have my own server and so I can't benefit from yahoo, hotmail and gmail anti-spam tecnology. PLEASE HELP!

If you are using unix/linux as the mail server use SpamAssassin. I have configured this a number of times for large sites and it works pretty well. It will not catch 100%, but it will help. There are a bunch of addons that you can configure with it.

From there, Grey Listing got rid of another 90% off the mail that SpamAssassin missed. It is very simple to setup.

You should also install ClamAv for anti virus protection.

Both can be installed with yum or you can simply download the rpm(s) and install them.

Reply:Most of the firewalls available today have the option of spam blocking, but it usually comes as an add on which you'll have to pay for each year. Your router might also have the same capability.
Reply:SpamBayes = http://spambayes.sourceforge.net
