E-mailing from Hotmail to Gmail is no problem however... Neither is from Hotmail to Hotmail, nor from Gmail to Gmail. It's frustrating.

Mail servers sometimes operate at specified intervals instead of in real time. E-mails get put on a buffer and, when it's time for the transmission, they all get sent at once.
Your frustration just goes to show how spoiled we are by technology these days.
